$1.1 million Written Tycoon Colt Sets Premier Sale Ring Alight

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 28

Written Tycoon might have moved to Arrowfield Stud last year, but he’s still Victoria’s favourite son and he delivered a huge highlight during the opening session of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale on Sunday when his colt from Gybe sold for $1.1million.

Consigned by Blue Gum Farm on behalf of Dorrington Farm, the colt was bred by Rob and Sylvie Crabtree and is a half-brother to two winners from stakes-winning Fastnet Rock mare Gybe, a half-sister to dual Group I winner Anabandana.

Written Tycoon colt from Gybe sells for $1.1million.

“He’s by the right stallion in Written Tycoon and he’s from a multiple stakes-winning mare by Fastnet Rock, so he had a great page, but he was just a magnificent individual,” said Phillip Campbell.

“It’s the perfect storm, we had all the ingredients there for a result like that. With colts like him you don’t know where they’re going to finish.”

The colt is the fourth yearling to sell for $1million or more by Written Tycoon and is his second this year. He was knocked down to astute bloodstock agent James Harron, who has already enjoyed success at the highest level with Written Tycoon having bought and raced his Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, now the leading two year-old sire in the country.

Gybe had no foal last year , but was one of 199 mares covered in 2020 by Written Tycoon at his new home at Arrowfield at a fee of $77,000.
