First Winner for Animal Kingdom

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 8
Royally bred Arrowfield homebred Earth Angel provided her Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winning sire Animal Kingdom (USA) with his first winner at Ballarat on Wednesday.

The two year-old daughter of Arrowfield's former Champion Two and Three Year Old filly Miss Finland has been given time to mature and was having her first start for the Hayes / Dabernig training partnership in the 1200 metre maiden.

Ridden patiently by Damien Oliver she settled back in the field and after working her way into clear running found the line with a late rush to claim a long neck win.

"Her mother won her maiden here," recalled stable representative Bruno Rouge-Serrett.

"She has a bright future as well and the further she goes the better she will be."

Winning rider Damien Oliver was full of praise for Earth Angel and is optimistic about the future.

"She'll make a lovely three year-old," he said.,

"She's big and scopey with a long stride. The further she went, the better she got."

Animal KingdomEarth Angel is the sixth foal of Redoute's Choice's superstar daughter Miss Finland, who won the Golden Slipper at two before training on at three to win a further four Group I events including the VRC Oaks and Australian Guineas.

Earth Angel is her third winner, following on from Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Stay With Me and stakes-placed Woodbine.

Arrowfield Stud sold the current yearling from Miss Finland, a colt by Dundeel, at the Magic Millions in January for $900,000 to Boomer Bloodstock.

Miss Finland missed in 2015, so had no foal last year and was then sent to Japan with a group of Arrowfield mares including her daughter Stay With Me for a mating with Deep Impact.

Earth Angel is the first winner anywhere in the world for Animal Kingdom, who did not shuttle last year and is currently at Darley in Kentucky standing at a fee of $US30,000.
