Street Boss' Ploverset Earns Stakes Win on Debut

Mark Smith - Saturday March 4

Odds-on favourite Madeenaty (Exceed And Excel) looked home in Saturday's Listed 3aw Is Football Stakes (1000m) at Flemington before the menacing presence of her stablemate Ploverset loomed large in the closing stages.

Making her career debut for trainer David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Ploverset overwhelmed her well-performed stablemate to win by a long-neck with Sam's Image (All American) a half-head back in third. (photo Grant Courtney).

"It was a huge effort by the winner in her first start, down the straight, to run down a good filly like Madeenaty," David Hayes said.

"I think Madeenaty might have run her race a bit before the start. She got very upset.

"Ploverset we thought was a really nice filly but I thought she would just need the run, and it would set her up for the Group Three race in a couple of weeks."

Hayes said Ploverset is being aimed at the Group Three TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in a fortnight.

Ridden by Corey Parish the chestnut daughter of Street Boss is a homebred for Rob Landale.

She is the second foal and first winner for the Testa Rossa mare Edwina Georgie.

While there has not been much going on in the pedigree for a few generations, Edwina Georgie hails from the family of Group 1 Levin Classic winner Southern Lord and the Hong Kong Group I winner Packing Winner.

Edwina Georgie has not had a live foal since Ploverset.

She missed to Reset in 2015 and has not had a mare return form submitted for last spring.

Ploverset becomes the 27th stakes-winner for Darley Stud's Street Cry stallion Street Boss (USA).
