New Zealand's most important thoroughbred market
has already thrown its weight behind Vadamos, who will begin stud duties at
Rich Hill Stud in the 2017 Southern Hemisphere breeding season.
Farm principal John Thompson said he had received outstanding feedback from
visitors to the recent National Yearling Sales at Karaka on his international
Group One winner.
"The word we were getting from the Australians is that they think he is exactly
the type of horse who should be standing in New Zealand and they will be coming
over to buy his progeny."
The regally-bred Vadamos' introductory fee has been set at $15,000 + GST.
"We think that represents great value for a stallion of his quality and there is
a huge amount of interest in the horse," Thompson said.
"The positive initial response to Vadamos from Australasian broodmare owners
has been excellent so we felt it was best to announce his fee now as there is a
limited number of nominations available outside the syndicate.
"We took bookings to him during the sales so it certainly looks like he's going
to get an awful lot of support."
With backing of a high profile group of breeders, Rich Hill Stud purchased a 50
per cent holding in the stallion last year at the end of his illustrious racing
career.
"John Camilleri, the breeder of Winx, and Andreas Putsch, who owns the French
stud farm Haras de Saint Pair, raced Vadamos together and they have retained
breeding shares in him," Thompson said.
"Locally we're joined by Sir Peter Vela, of Pencarrow Stud, Greg Tomlinson, of
Nearco Stud, and Valachi Downs' Kevin Hickman to name a few."
The top-class Vadamos won theGr.1Prix du Moulin at Longchamp,
theGr.2Prix du Muguet at Saint Cloud,
theGr.2Oettingen-Rennen at Baden Baden and theGr.3Prix
Messidor at Maisons-Laffitte from the stable of leading international trainer
Andre Fabre.
Out of a wonderful international family developed by the Aga Khan, he won eight
races from 1600 to 2400 metres and he ended his career with commendable fourth
placings in both theGr.1Cox Plate and theGr.1Emirates
Stakes.
"He's a magnificent individual and arguably the best-bred and fastest son of
the breed-shaping Monsun, who has sired three of the last four Melbourne Cup
winners," Thompson said.
