Favour Swings to Buyers on Day One of Select Sale

Breednet - Wednesday February 1
After two solid days of selling in New Zealand Bloodstock's Premier Sale, buyers found securing the Lots they wanted an easier task on day one of the three-day Select Sale.

Zacinto x Anya. Photo: Trish Dunell.Total turnover in the opening session amounted to $6.8 million from 139 Lots sold for an average price of $48,975. Clearance currently sits at 66% while the median settled at $40,000.

Buyers from Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore accounted for 54% of the aggregate while domestic buyers bought 78 Lots (56% of those offered) for $3.1 million or 46% of the days turnover.

Inglewood Stud's colt by their resident sire Zacinto at Lot 533 provided the day's price highlight when knocked down to Bryce Tankard's Waikato Bloodstock in conjunction with Kangyu International Racing for $180,000. With his oldest crop in their classic year, Zacinto has made a significant impact with his first crop already gleaning a Group One winner in Two Thousand Guineas victor Ugo Foscolo.

"Thankfully for us after the last couple of days it was a lot easier to buy a horse and we were able to purchase four Lots," Tankard commented.

"The Zacinto colt is a stand-out being a quality individual with great presence that we were keen to secure as soon as we first laid eyes on him."

"He will do his early education here in New Zealand and then if he goes as good as he looks he will be racing in Hong Kong."

The result is another pleasing boost for the South Island industry with fellow Cantabrian farm Beltana supplying the $825,000 sale topping Premier Sale Lot 10 earlier in the week.

Equalling today's top price was Lot 622, a Casino Prince colt from Waikato Stud that is also destined to stay in New Zealand for his early education with racing in Hong Kong awaiting should he measure up.

Having narrowly kept leading vendor honours from Cambridge Stud in the Premier Sale, Waikato Stud sold 13 today to be leading vendor by aggregate at this stage while The Oaks Stud's average of $98,333 sees them as the current leading vendor by average (three or more Lots sold).

Day two of the Select Sale will commence at 11am tomorrow with Lot 701. Passed in Lots from today's Sale can be viewed here.
