Among the first crop sires are the New Zealand-based quartet – Shamexpress, Ferlax, Jakkalberry, and Sweet Orange.

Below is a brief synopsis on each of the new sires represented, commencing with the NZ domiciled stallions.

Shamexpress
(O'Reilly x Volkrose by Volksraad)
19 Premier, 18 Select, 1 Festival

2014 Stud Fee: $16,000+GST
Shamexpress
With 19 yearlings catalogued at the Premier Yearling Sale, Shamexpress, has the highest representation of the first-time sellers. His offspring have already been well received at the Gold Coast sales where three yearlings by the Group One winning son of O'Reilly went through the ring. His top priced lot, a filly out of Burlesque, was knocked down for A$300,000 to former Kiwi trainer Trent Busuttin. The three Shamexpress yearlings sold averaged A$156,666.

"We identified two fillies that we thought would suit that market and we are very pleased with the outcome," Windsor Park Stud general manager Steve Till said.

"It was gratifying to see the acceptance in the market and it has set a good tone for Karaka."

Out of the Volksraad mare Volkrose, a half-sister to the Group One placed O'Reilly Rose, Shamexpress competed at the highest level in Australia's elite sprints. In addition to winning the Gr.1 VRC Newmarket Handicap, he also ran second in the Gr.1 VRC Sprint Classic and Gr.1 Lightning Stakes and finished third in the Gr.1 VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Sure to be a head-turner among the Shamexpress yearlings is the white colt out of the Zabeel mare, The Opera House. Lot 449 will be among the most photographed yearlings on the Karaka complex.

The winner of four races from 1200m to 1600m, the pinnacle of Ferlax's racing career came when winning the stallion making Gr.1 Australian Guineas in 2013. He also finished second behind Atlantic Jewel in the Gr.1 Memsie Stakes.

Jakkalberry is the Group One winner of 12 races, with his successes coming in Italy, Dubai, the United States and Great Britain. He is best remembered in this hemisphere for his third placing behind Green Moon and Fiorente in the 2012 Melbourne Cup.

"The feedback from the parades has been very positive," Novara Park's Ray Knight said. "I am really looking forward to the sale. They are lovely, athletic horses and I couldn't be happier with the two we have in Premier."

The first Jakkalberry colt to go through the Karaka ring is a three-quarter brother to VRC Derby winner Lion Tamer, while his other Premier sale representative is a half-brother to Gr.1 Melbourne Cup and VRC Derby winner Efficient.
