Fifth Stakes Win for Denman's Kuro

Mark Smith - Friday January 13

A timely update for Bhima Thoroughbreds All Too Hard filly due to go through the Magic Millions sale ring on Saturday night when her half-brother Kuro was a fast-finishing winner of Friday's Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford.

Ridden by Josh Parr for trainer Joe Pride, Kuro was caught wide the trip but managed to get some cover midrace. Set alight before the home turn Kuro finished best to defeat His Majesty, who came from second last, by a length with the winners more favoured stablemate Ball Of Muscle half a length back in third. Pride said he was disappointed in the effort of Ball Of Muscle.

It's been a bit of his pattern lately the last 100 metres he doesn't really find the line," Pride told AAP.

"Kuro was really strong through the line and generally those horses win races."

Carrying the colours of Champion Thoroughbreds, Kuro was winning his fifth stakes race advancing his overall record to 8 wins, 3 seconds and 5 thirds from 27 starts with earnings of $654,525.

Placed at the highest level in The Galaxy and Coolmore Stud Stakes at three, the son of Denman was $120,000 purchase by Champion Thoroughbreds from the Curraghmore Stud draft at the 2013 NZB Premier Yearling Sale.

He is the second foal of the stakes-placed Orientate mare Distinctive Lass a granddaughter of the champion sprinter Special (Bluebird) who is also the granddam of the triple Group 1 winner Bomber Bill (Air de France).

Purchased by Nearco Stud for $140,000 out of the Yarraman Park draft at the 2011 Inglis Easter Broodmare sale, Distinctive Lass had a yearling Ocean Park colt sell to Champion Thoroughbreds for $75,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale. The now 2yo colt has been named Southern Lad.

As mentioned earlier, the yearling filly by All Too Hard will be consigned to the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale by Bhima Thoroughbreds as Lot 777.

After being covered by Snitzel in 2015, Distinctive Lass returned to New Zealand.
