Kermadec Gelding Makes it Two from Two

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 10

There was a timely update for a colt heading to the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale when the exciting Kermadec gelding Tuvalu kept his record at a perfect two for two at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday.

A facile seven-length winner on debut at Warrnambool on January 21, the Lindsay Smith-trained gelding made every post a winner under Ethan Brown.

Under little more than a hand-ride Tuvalu defeated the I Am Invincible gelding Cumberbatch by two and a half lengths with the Written Tycoon gelding the Big Easy three-quarter of a length back in third.

“He’s a little bit raw but his work during the week was excellent, stable representative John Brooks told Racing.com.

Tuvalu was a $200,000 purchase by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) / L Smith out of the Merricks Station draft at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

The 3yo gelding is the first runner out of the Exceed And Excel mare Hangin’ Tough whose stakes-placed dam Ancelin (Sadler’s Wells) is a half-sister to Darley Stud’s blue hen Accessories the dam of Epaulette, Helmet, Bullbars and Pearls.

Merricks Station will consign a Lonhro half-brother to Tuvalu at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. (Lot 73)
