There
were a raft of well-bred interesting three year-old winners at the Beaumont
track at Newcastle on Sunday, but this one carried the colours of the mighty $7
million earner Criterion.
Three year-old Fastnet Rock filly Miss Debutante was having her second start
for Gai Waterhouse / Adrian Bott having
finished third on debut at Warwick Farm back in February.
A stronger filly this time around she was unbeaten in tow trials leading into
the race and was sent out a hot favourite for the 1150 metre maiden.
She led throughout and bolted clear to win by three and a half lengths so
should have no trouble acquitting herself well when she returns to town.
A $430,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Kia Ora draft for Paul Moroney
Bloodstock, Miss Debutante runs for Criterion’s owner Sir Owen Glenn, so will
no doubt be a partner for the four-time Group I winner when her racing days are
done.
Miss Debutante is the first winner for More Than Real (USA), a Group II winning
daughter of champion sire More Than Ready.
Kia Ora sold a full sister to Miss Debutante a Inglis Easter this year for
$580,000 and there is a yearling colt by the same sire to follow.
