UK Stakes Double for Power

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 23

Fresh from siring his first New Zealand stakes-winner on Saturday in Gift of Power, Cambridge Stud shuttler Power (GB) was also making news in the UK at the weekend with a stakes double at Newbury.

Power crowned a brilliant year when recording a Group III and Listed double at Newbury with a pair of promising juveniles.

First up the Ralph Beckett-trained gelding Pleaseletmewin  prevailed in a competitive 13-runner renewal of the Group III Horris Hill Stakes.

The classy juvenile, bred by Ballykilbride Stud, was always prominent before hitting the front a furlong out and coming home two and a quarter lengths clear of the field.

"Pleaseletmewin is very versatile as he has won on soft, Polytrack and firm ground," said Beckett. "He was just too fresh at Newmarket last time. I don´t know what we will do with him next year."

Shortly afterwards, it was the turn of the William Haggas-trained filly Cristal Fizz to advertise the talents of Power as a stallion.

PowerThe unbeaten filly landed a cosy victory in the Listed Radley Stakes and looks a live Classic contender for next year.

The filly, bred by Norelands Bloodstock, won an Ascot maiden on her debut in September and has subsequently been sold privately to Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum.

"She is not the greatest home worker and it was a surprise when she won on her debut," said Haggas. "She did it well today, and having won this Listed race we will have to look upwards next year."

Power is standing at $8,000 at Cambridge Stud this spring.
