Cox Plate Stallions - where are they now?

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 20
New Zealand's champion sire Savabeel won the Group I MVRC Cox Plate in 2004 and since then the race has been won on a number of occasions by stallions who are now at stud and are progressing through various stages in their new careers.

Globe-trotting superstar So You Think scored memorable back-to-back Cox Plate wins in 2009 and 2010 before retiring to Coolmore Stud in 2012.

His oldest progeny are now three year-olds and So You Think has a number of promising performers headed by New Zealand based stakes-winning fillies Gold Rush and La Diosa, who is favourite for the Group I NZ 1,000 Guineas.

In Australia, he is the sire of stakes-placed three year-olds Kaching, Smart as You Think and Inference, as well as So Si Bon, who was fifth in the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas and runs on Saturday in the Group II MVRC Super Vase.

A spectacular looking son of the late, great High Chaparral (IRE), So You Think stands at a fee of $49,500.

Thorn Park's star son Ocean Park claimed the 2012 Cox Plate for the Kiwis and has been at Waikato Stud alongside the mighty Savabeel since 2013.

His first yearlings sold at Karaka earlier this year for up to $330,000 and many have found their way to Australia, so will be worth watching out for. Click here to see who bought them for how much.

Ocean Park stands at $30,000.

Sent into the 2013 Cox Plate a maiden, three year-old Snitzel colt Shamus Award emerged triumphant and a subsequent victory in the Group I VRC Australian Guineas confirmed the win no fluke.

Shamus Award retired to Widden Stud in 2014 and his first yearlings will be offered at Australian sales in 2017.

He stands at $27,500.

Coolmore's international raider Adelaide (IRE) scored a scintillating Cox Plate victory in 2014 earning him a slot on the highly competitive Coolmore Australia stallion roster.

A son of the all-conquering world champion sire Galileo, Adelaide covered nearly 100 mares in his first season at stud and has some lovely foals on the ground this spring as you can see below.
