A Great Start to Life

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 17
Caulfield Cup Queen Jameka and last week's Caulfield Guineas hero Divine Prophet enjoyed the same great start to life having been foaled at boutique Hunter Valley nursery Middlebrook Valley Lodge under the watchful eye of Verna Metcalfe, who earlier this year was honoured with the HTBA Murray Bain Services to Industry Award.

The winner of last year's Group I VRC Oaks, the Ciaron Maher trained Jameka (pictured Grant Courtney) added the Caulfield Cup to her resume last Saturday with a commanding three length victory taking her earnings in excess of $3.6 million.

By Vinery Stud's quiet achiever Myboycharlie (IRE) from Mine Game, Jameka is yet another superstar bred by Rick Jamieson's Gilgai Farm, who have also given us Black Caviar, All Too Hard and The Quarterback.

She was foaled at Middlebrook Valley Lodge on August 17 2012 and has always been a character as you can see in these images taken by Katrina Partridge, who observed at the time, "She had no fear from the time she was born and had a 'couldn't care less' attitude that set her apart from the other foals."

Also born at Middlebrook Valley Lodge on November 2, 2013 was Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet. The Choisir colt from Prophet Jewel was retained to race by Tony Falcone and his family and has now won $859,525 in prizemoney.

He is pictured firstly as a foal then as an early yearling, his enthusiasm to run apparent from an early age!
