First Winner for Former Star Juvenile

Breednet - Wednesday October 12
After a couple of photo finish seconds In Times Of War finally broke through to provide the first winner for former star two year-old Military Rose.

Street CryBack in 2010, trained by Gillian Heinrich, Military Rose burst onto the scene winning her first five starts including the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Gr.2 Reisling Stakes which saw her start favourite in the Golden Slipper Stakes.

That wasn't to be however as she finished unplaced behind the ill-fated Crystal Lily before never recapturing her best form as a three-year-old, although she did win the Gr.3 Gold Coast Guineas.

The Heinrichs, who had paid $155,000 for the daughter of General Nediym as a yearling put her through the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale after her final start as a three-year-old where she was purchased by Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud for $800,000, the second top price of the sale.

She was sent to Street Cry in her second season which produced In Times Of War, who was retained to race by Harvey and sent to Chris Waller's stable.

Her first two starts saw her beaten a nose at Canterbury on August 30, then a head at Rosehill on September 28 but on Wednesday it all came together in a comfortable win.

Military Rose currently has a two-year-old full sister to In Times Of War, a yearling by More Than Ready and was served by All Too Hard last season.

None of her offspring have been offered for sale to this point.
