Lonhro's Wait For No One Dazzles On Debut

Mark Smith - Saturday October 8

Wait For No One lived up to his name rather than his breeding when showing blazing speed to capture Saturday's $120,000 Listed Inglis Debutant Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.

The dark brown son of Lonhro had the field well spread out in the early stages as Stephen Baster took him straight to the front.

The Exceed And Excel colt All Eez made sure Wait For No One did not have everything his own way up front.

While All Eez retreated to beat just one to the line, Wait For No One kept up his gallop but looked a sitting shot for the Snitzel filly Spoils.

But Wait For No One refused to yield hanging on to defeat the Clinton McDonald-trained Spoils by a short half-head with Miss Wahoo (Master Of Design) one and three-quarters of a length back in third. (photos Grant Courtney)

It has been a dream start to the season for Lindsay Park after the Exceed And Excel filly Madeenaty was hugely impressive in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington last Sunday.

Co-trainer David Hayes said the son of Lonhro was a deserved winner.

"He's a pretty good colt this one," Hayed said.

"The horse that nearly beat him had the dream run. We did all the work up front so I think there's quite a bit of merit to the win.

"If he was a weaker horse he would have got beaten.

Bred by Hayes along with the Devitt and Gordon families, Wait For No One headed to the Group III Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington on Emirates Stakes day while a 1000m Group III fillies race on Melbourne Cup day is the likely target for Madeenaty.

Wait For On One is a half-brother to the promising Nicconi gelding Beauty Master who goes around at Sha Tin later today.

They are out of the winning Rock Of Gibraltar (GB) mare Divine Choice who hails from one of Lomar Park Stud's most successful families.

Herself runner-up in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes, Divine Choice is a daughter of the Mister C mare Smart Company a sister to Group I Doomben 10000 and Group 1 Goodwood handicap winner Super Elegant, Group II winner Elegancy and Group III winner Mister Elegant.

Divine Choice has a yearling filly by Sebring and a colt foal by the Golden Slipper winner born three weeks ago.

Wait For No One becomes the 65th stakes winner for Darley Stud's Lonhro.
