$1.8 Million for Kingman Colt

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 13

The decision to send blue-blooded Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Florentina to the UK to be covered by leading young European sire Kingman paid big dividends at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Wednesday when her colt resulting from that mating fetched $1.8million.

Segenhoe team put the polish on their star!

Consigned by Segenhoe on behalf of Fairway Thoroughbreds, the colt was foaled in the UK and then sent back to Australia, while his dam remained to be covered by Kingman again before she too returned last year.

He attracted keen competition before being knocked down to Tom Magnier for Coolmore and if ever a colt had a stallions pedigree, it’s this one.

A half- brother to Group II placed Villa Carlotta and stakes-placed Fasano, he is the sixth foal of Florentina, a half-sister to Group I winner Gathering from the Twyla branch of the famed Shantha’s Choice family that has given us Group I stars such as Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain and Shoals.

Florentina was offered at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale last year in foal to Kingman for the second time and made $650,000 after initially passing in with the Towell family’s Jananth Pty Ltd the buyer.

She produced this lovely filly last spring, whose worth has just shot through the roof!
