Waikato Stud’s champion sire Savabeel has been busy adding new stakes-winners to his tally over the holiday period and did it again on Sunday with promising three year-old Milford, who is the 20th stakes-winner for his sire bred from a daughter of O’Reilly.
A $360,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase, Milford won the Listed Gingernuts Salver at just his fifth start and will now progress towards the Group I New Zealand Derby. Read more about him here.
The Savabeel cross over O’Reilly mares has produced 102 winners from 136 starters, that’s over 75% winners to runners and the 20 stakes-winners bred this way include Group I winners are Costume, Diademe, Savaria and Embellish as well as rising star three year-old Mo’Unga.
The stakes-winner to runner rate of nearly 15% is above Savabeel’s overall stakes-winner to runner rate of 11%.
