Five heats for juveniles were held at Randwick on Tuesday morning featuring some interesting winners including a colt by I Am Invincible that made $1,050,000 at Magic Millions and a filly bred to win an Oaks one day.
Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, expensive I Am invincible Zarastro was having his second trial after finishing second to subsequent Magic Millions Clockwise Classic winner Readily Availabull at Rosehill on November 12.
Zarastro did everything right, jumping well and travelling hard on the bridle behind the leader and when asked to go past him, did that with a minimum of fuss to win by a length held together.
Other 2YO heat winners were Swift Witness (Star Witness), Summerbeel (Savabeel), Selhurst Park (Not a Single Doubt) and Cochrane (Spirit of Boom).
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Savabeel filly Summerbeel is an interesting one as this $310,000 Karaka purchase is bred to be an Oaks filly, yet here she was leading all the way to win her 735m heat by two lengths.
Summerbeel is from imported Street Cry mare Summer School (IRE), who won over 12 ½ f and is from stakes-winning Sadler’s Wells mare Measured Tempo, a half-sister to French Derby winner Anabaa Blue.
If she was lining up in an Oaks I’d be giving her a big tick for a staying pedigree, so am not sure what to make of the precocity she showed here, but Summerbeel might be one right out of the box… and let’s not forget Savabeel has sired the past two winners of the Karaka Million in Probabeel and Cool Aza Beel.
