NZB Ready Run Updates Pedigree Updates Galore

Media Release - Friday November 13

Significant pedigree updates to the 2020 Ready to Run Sale catalogue have come thick and fast throughout the spring, right up to and including the prestigious New Zealand Cup carnival in Christchurch this week.

Group II winner Hypnos has a half-brother at the Ready to Run.

One of the Riccarton carnival’s showpiece races, Wednesday’s $230,000 Group Two Coupland’s Bakeries Mile (1600m), was impressively won by Hypnos (NZ) (Reliable Man), who has a half-brother going through the ring in the Ready to Run Sale at Karaka later this month. A gelding by Redwood, he will be offered through Westbury Stud’s draft as Lot 30.

Undefeated three-year-old Aegon (NZ) (Sacred Falls), who extended his perfect career record to three-from-three with a scintillating victory in the Group One New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) last Saturday, comes from the same family as Lot 95, a Dundeel colt in the draft of Ohukia Lodge.

There are also relatives to star performers in some of Australia’s biggest spring features. Lot 11 is a close relative to Karaka graduate Johnny Get Angry (NZ) (Tavistock), who emphatically won the Group One Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington earlier this month. Offered by Kilmore Farm, Lot 11 is a Reliable Man gelding whose dam is a full-sister to the dam of Johnny Get Angry.

The third placegetter in the Victoria Derby was the highly rated Young Werther (NZ) (Tavistock), who is closely related to Lot 120 in the Ready to Run Sale catalogue.

Lot 83 comes from the same family as superstar sprinter Classique Legend (Not a Single Doubt), who blazed his way to glory in the world’s richest turf race – last month’s A$15 million Everest (1200m) in Sydney.

A close relative of Lot 76 is The Chosen One (NZ) (Savabeel), who flew the New Zealand flag with big performances for third in the Caulfield Cup (2400m) and fourth in the Melbourne Cup (3200m). Also a placegetter in this year’s Sydney Cup (3200m), The Chosen One has earned more than $1.7 million for his big group of owners.

Lot 76 is out of the Group Two-winning mare Star Affair (NZ) (Star Way), who is a dam of three stakes winners including Group One winner La Diosa (NZ) (So You Think). Star Affair is a half-sister to multiple Group One winner The Jewel (NZ) (O’Reilly), who produced four black-type performers including The Chosen One’s dam The Glitzy One (Flying Spur).

The family of Group One Toorak Handicap (1600m) hero Mr Quickie (Shamus Award) is represented by Lot 51, a colt by Turn Me Loose from the draft of Woburn Farm.

Other Group One pedigree updates in the catalogue include:

  • Lot 57 is related to Umm Kulthum (Kodiac), a Group Three-winning juvenile in Britain this season who placed in the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes (1200m).
  • Lot 164 comes from the family of First Constitution (Constitution), a recent winner of the Hipodromo Chile Grand Criterium (1900).
  • Lot 192 is closely related to Lion’s Roar (NZ) (Contributer), who finished second in the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.
  • Soft Fruit (Deep Impact), a recent placegetter in Kyoto’s Shuka Sho (2000m), comes from the same family as Lot 283.
  • Lot 288 is from the family of Supera (NZ) (Savabeel), a multiple Group One placegetter who finished second in the Tarzino Trophy (1400m) at Hastings.

It is also worth noting that Lot 230 is a rare southern hemisphere offering by Siyouni, the champion French stallion who last month sired the Group One Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (2400m) winner Sottsass.

Recent French form is also to the fore with Lot 5, who is closely related to Kalahara (Frankel), a recent winner of the Group Three Prix d’Arenberg (1000m) and placegetter in the Group Two Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte (1200m).

Meanwhile, Lot 27 comes from the same family as Pixelate (City Zip), who won the Grade Two Del Mar Derby (1800m) in California. Lot 57 is from the family of Saratoga’s Grade Two Jim Dandy Stakes (1800m) winner Mystic Guide (Ghostzapper), who also placed in the Grade One Jockey Club Gold Cup (2000m).

Felicia (Unencumbered) made a good impression in Melbourne during the spring carnival, winning the Group Three How Now Stakes (1200m) and placing in the Group Two Tristarc Stakes (1400m), Group Three Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m) and Listed Bendigo Bank Stakes (1200m). She comes from the same family as Lot 38, a colt by high-flying sire No Nay Never.

Lot 106 is from the same family as Yes Baby Yes (Dissident), who won the Group Two Moonee Valley Fillies’ Classic (1600m).

There are two recent Group Two pedigree updates for Lot 286, a colt by Wrote. He comes from the same family as Mister Sea Wolf (Amadeus Wolf), who won the Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) in Sydney, while another relative is Mount Laurel (Ideal World), who placed in the Johannesburg Spring Filly and Mare Challenge (1450m).

Lot 299 is from the same family as Communique (NZ) (Redwood), a recent placegetter in the Group Two Coupland’s Bakeries Mile (1600m) and Listed Spring Classic (2000m), as well as the Listed Metropolitan Trophy (2500m) placegetter The Good Fight (NZ) (High Chaparral).

Lot 15 comes from the same family as Enthaar (Written Tycoon), impressive winner of the Group Three Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) in Sydney.

Lot 168 is out of a sibling to All Saints’ Eve (NZ) (Sacred Falls), who won the Group Three Tibbie Stakes (1400m).

Lot 207 is closely related to the former Hong Kong Derby (2000m) hero Furore (NZ) (Pierro), who was back at his brilliant best with his recent victory in the Group Three Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse (1800m).

The upcoming weekend’s stakes racing could also provide timely pedigree updates for siblings nominated to runners in the Ready to Run Sale catalogue.

  • Lot 68, a colt by Savabeel out of Sister Celeste (Galileo), is a half-brother to Kelly Renee (NZ) (Vespa) who is running in the Group One New Zealand One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton on Saturday.
  • Charm Spirit gelding (Lot 173) is a half-brother to current performer Siracusa (NZ) (Sebring), who is running in the Group Two Tauranga Stakes (1600m). If she secures this victory it will be her fourth consecutive win from nine starts.
  • Lot 41, an All Too Hard colt out of Rock Me Baby (Rock of Gibraltar), is a half-brother to Safeer (NZ) (Savabeel) who is racing in the Listed Singapore EW Barker Trophy (1400m) on Sunday.
