First 2YO Trial Winner for Alpine Eagle

Media Release - Tuesday November 10

The progeny of Armidale Stud's freshman sire Alpine Eagle continue to tick all the right boxes with his son Alpine Blast becoming the first trial winner by the impeccably bred son of High Chaparral.

Bred and sold by Armidale Stud, trainer John Blacker purchased Alpine Blast for $45,000 from Armidale's 2020 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling draft.

Alpine Blast is a promising 2YO for Alpine Eagle

Alpine Blast's 2.5 length trial win today at Longford impressed trainer John Blacker who has thought a lot of the gelding since buying him.

"He improved from his first trial and hit the line well today. He has a great temperament and has indicated that he's ready, so if he pulls up well tomorrow, we'll aim to start him in the first Tasmanian two-year-old race at Hobart over 900m on Sunday."

"I'm a big fan of Alpine Eagle and purchased eight yearlings by him at the sales this year. This horse really caught my eye as being one of the nicest colts at the sale, and although you wouldn't expect the Alpine Eagles to be early two-year-old's, he’s putting his hand up and will only get better at three," said John.

Alpine Eagle's trial winner comes off the back of outstanding support received during 2020 breeding season where he has covered a remarkable book of mares.

Alpine Eagle

Armidale Stud take a strategic approach when it comes to planning the matings for Alpine Eagle and have worked hard to source young, well-related mares that will give him the best chance at proving himself as a stallion.

Alpine Blast was a real favourite with Armidale Stud's Racing and Bloodstock Manager Rhiannon Whishaw who has been involved with him from day one.

"We purchased Alpine Blast's dam Rose of Woorim specifically for Alpine Eagle based on her pedigree and type. She's a half-sister to Group One Oakleigh Plate winner and multiple Group winner Woorim, and we knew the resulting foal would be a head-turner.”

"We’ve loved him from day one, he was a beautiful first foal and we liked him so much that we opted to stay in the ownership,” said Rhiannon.

Alpine Eagle stands for $5,500 plus GST in 2020.
