First Justify Weanlings Impress

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 9

The first weanlings by undefeated Triple Crown hero Justify are being offered at US sales this week starting with thet Fasig Tipton November Sale where a filly out of Lastofthesummerwine set the ring alight when bringing $400,000 to the bid of Breeze Easy.

One of the most expensive weanlings of the sale, the Four Star Sales-consigned filly is a half-sister to stakes winners Conquest Panthera, Happy Like a Fool, and Hawaiian Noises.

Purchased by Clear Creek Stables, the grey colt comes with a big Black Type pedigree as his dam is a half-sister to three other stakes-winners.

Justify will have 11 more weanlings on offer over the next three days at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Mares in foal to Justify were also in demand with triple Group I winner Bast selling for $4.2million in foal to Justify in her first season at stud.

Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales for owner Baoma Corporation, Spendthrift Farm bought the bay daughter of Uncle Mo late in the session as the fourth most expensive mare sold on the night.

“When you see that kind catalogued, you hope you come out here and you’re not disappointed,” Spendthrift Farm’s Ned Toffey told Thoroughbred Daily News.

“When you see her, you’re certainly not disappointed–she’s just a big, impressive filly. She’s just a superstar; the talent, plus the pedigree, and in foal to a heck of a horse, so we’re excited. [Justify’s] a wonderful sire–or we think he can be a wonderful sire, I should say. If you can get a chance to get a mare in foal to a horse like that, that’s always exciting.”

Justify is currently in Australia at Coolmore covering his second book of mares here at a fee of $66,000.
