Sessions - Another Lonhro Son Making his Mark

Media Release - Wednesday October 14

Oakland Park Stud’s handsome son of Lonhro, Sessions, is posting some outstanding figures and his progeny have only just turned 4.

Sessions is sitting 7th in the leading 3rd Season sire list in Australia and even more impressive is the fact he is the 5th leading sire by AEI  in all of Australia ahead of Snitzel (10th), Brazen Beau (11th), Not a Single Doubt (16th), So You Think (17th) and his APEX A index of 4.72 is well out front of all active Australian sires.

Sessions

On the track, this powerful son of Lonhro was a short course specialist, winning the prestigious Group 2 ATC Shorts over 1100 metres and a close up third in the Group 1 MVRC Manikato Stakes to the five-time Group 1 winner Buffering, and placings in the Group 1 AJC Galaxy, Group 2 VRC Gilgai and Group 2 Concorde Stakes.

Darley’s champion stalwart sire Lonhro is really starting to make a name for himself as a proven sire of sires. Headed by the Golden Slipper winner Pierro, who now stands at $125,000 plus GST, has quickly established himself as one of the country’s best stallions siring 24 Stakes Winners to date including the WA stars Arcadia Queen, Regal Power along with Pierata, Shadow Hero, Levendi and Pinot.

Others sons of Lonhro include the under rated Denman sire of 17 stakes winners including Hot Kong Prawn and Deprive as well as the ill-fated Demerit sire of Special Reward, Agent Pippa and Starfield Impact.

This is a sire line going places.

In his short stud career to date, Sessions is already the sire of 33 progeny to race for 20 individual winners of 45 races, including the outstanding stakes winner Massimo, who has amassed over $700,000 in prizemoney and bonuses in his 8 wins to date and the stakes-placed Put A Spell On You a 4 time city winner, with earnings of over $2 million. Sessions is well on his way to becoming one of WA’s best sires.

Interesting to note, Sessions has produced winners over 1000 metres to 2000 metres, with the sweet spot being between 1000 metres to 1400 metres. As Neville Duncan of Oakland Park predicted, the progeny of Sessions will furnish to very good three-year-olds and beyond.

Sessions has achieved these most encouraging results from very limited opportunities & his mare numbers prove that. In his first crop he sired 40 live foals followed up by 28, 20 & 21, he was very popular last season serving 68 mares and is fully booked this season.

Another promising observation is amongst his 20 individual winners, 12 are metropolitan winners - that’s what we are all aiming for - to race city class gallopers like Boomtastic, Chatter Session & Captain Kink.

Sessions stands this season at Oakland Park for $3,500 + GST.
