Digital Providing Avenues to Reach Broader Market

Media Release - Wednesday October 14

I Am Invincible filly Avenue of Pleasure has topped the Inglis Digital October (Early) Online Sale at $205,000, purchased by successful Victorian owner Gary Lechte.

The 3YO granddaughter of Carry On Cutie was one of five lots that sold for $100,000 or more, bringing the Inglis Digital six-figure tally to 74 lots since 2018.

The October (Early) Sale concluded with a gross of more than $2.34 million, another outstanding clearance rate of 84% and an average of $16,100, the highest so far this year.

Gary Lechte purchased three of the top five lots, buying out fellow owners in 4YO gelding Exeter (Fastnet Rock) for $110,000 and 3YO colt Pulitzer Prize (Fastnet Rock) for $100,000.

Those horses, along with the second top lot of the sale Surooj (Sebring) were all offered by Lindsay Park Racing (as agent).

“They’re all great results for our owners,” Lindsay Park Racing’s Dom Rhoden said.

“Surooj, for example, was owned by Shadwell and has form at Group 2 level as a 2YO and she’s now sold for $140,000 to Scone trainer Mark Schmetzer and I’m sure will be very competitive for her new connections.

“We offered nine horses in this October catalogue – and collectively they’ve sold for almost $650,000 – it’s just unreal how strong this online market is.

“Lindsay Park have been using Inglis Digital since 2018 and we generally have something in every catalogue.

“The bidding is always very spirited, the service is great, it’s transparent for our owners and for those buying and as many have said before, it’s an easy way to sell without transporting a horse off the property,” Rhoden said.

Spiritual Pursuit – a Stakes placed daughter Snitzel and Happy Hippy – joined the six-figure club when bought by Hong Kong-based Hall of Fame Bloodstock for $115,000.

A 36% share in progressive New Zealand G1 winner Callsign Mav (Atlante) was purchased by Nelson Thoroughbreds for $85,000.

“A group that are already part owners in the horse, got together to buy out my share,” Jeremy Cross said.

“I’m over the moon with the result, I really have to thank Toby Liston (Three Bridges Thoroughbreds) who gave me the encouragement to trust the Inglis Digital platform and the process of offering a share like this online, he’s a big fan of the service and obviously has had great success using it himself.

Other results include Stakes-placed 3YO colt Remorseless (Written Tycoon) which sold to Sean Driver for $85,000; Divided House (I Am Invincible) and her 28-day-old Pride of Dubai filly at foot purchased by Gall Bloodstock for $80,000 and 3YO gelding Twentyeightdragons (Foxwedge), an impressive trial winner in Queensland that sold to Tory Lavalle for $60,000.

Mark Chadwick, who offered the Divided House and her foal through Middlebrook Valley Lodge, said the result “was truly remarkable”.

“It was well beyond my expectations; I’ve thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the rise in popularity of the online sales and the results for vendors that Inglis Digital is achieving is highly commendable.

“It really does give vendors significant optionality with respect to managing their bloodstock interests,” Chadwick said.

Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth said: “The sale results are very pleasing and as recent racetrack results have demonstrated, the platform continues to provide exceptional value to buyers.

“For example, the dam of today’s G3 Ladies Day Vase winner Sovereign Award, was purchased for just $1,750 in the 2019 January Online Sale, so someone has had another fantastic update.

“Makybe purchased the dam of Warwick Farm winner Ellsberg for $8,500 in the 2020 June (Early) Sale and last Saturday’s Debutant Stakes winner Fake Love (I Am Invincible), had a yearling three-quarter-brother by Hellbent sell in the 2020 August (Early) Sale to Ashbrook Thoroughbreds for $40,000.

“The turnover through the platform, which now exceeds $40 million for the year so far, is driven by the quality of the stock on offer and we are proud that each and every catalogue features stock that appeals to a broad cross section of people,” Melmeth said.

Entries are open for the October (Late) Online Sale and close at midnight (AEDT) on Wednesday, October 21.
