Just a few days after Chris Waller Racing announced that their dual Group II winning mare Haut Brion Her, a daughter of Champion First and Second Season sire Zoustar, will contest this year’s $15m The TAB Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick, her well-related half-sister Lady Millions has come on the market.
A daughter of the high-class broodmare sire in Charge Forward, sire of the dams of Golden Slipper winners Estijaab and She Will Reign as well as the triple Gr.1 winner Sunlight, Lady Millions has already produced the undefeated 2yo and stakes placed 3yo Malahide (by Shamus Award).
The winner of four races and $234,000 in earnings, Malahide’s trainer Michael Costa just prior to her last start on the 30 September was quoted in the press, “At this stage she’ll have a short break for two or three weeks after tomorrow and get ready for some Listed races during the summer and the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares race again. She ran well to finish sixth after being caught wide most the trip and was beaten by Invincibella who won’t be there next January.”
Malahide finished just over two length behind Group 1 winner Invincibella in the 2020 $1,000,000 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) last January and her next campaign will be targeted towards the 2021 edition of the race.
Costa appears to have an affinity with the family, securing the current 2yo, a filly by Wandjina, earlier in the year at the yearling sales.
Apart from being a half-sister to the recent Gr.2 Shearco Stakes winner Haut Brion Her, Lady Millions is also a half to the Gr.3-winning Karacatis (by Hussonet), a winner of 11 races and over $640,000 in earnings, as well as to Shamardal’s Listed-winning juvenile son Shamillion.
Lady Millions is due to foal at the end of October to Vinery Stud’s Star Turn (by Star Witness), a first crop stallion who has started the season with all guns blazing.
From just two starters, he has been represented by impressive Gr.3 Breeders’ Plate third placed Astrologer, as well as Brisbane second place getter Stellar Magic. Throw into the mix Rosehill trial winner Montana Flash (trained by Team Hawkes), and you could say the future is looking quite rosy for Vinery’s Group 2-winning sprinter.
The current yearling from the mare, a filly by Deep Field, has been described by breeder Howard Blight as a ‘very good type’ with a decision still being made about retaining her to race or offering her through the 2021 yearling sales.
Lady Millions is currently located in the Hunter Valley and available for inspection. For further information please contact Brett Howard at Randwick Bloodstock Agency on 0403 037 773 or email randwickbloodstock@bigpond.com
