Power's Helvic Dream in a Seven and a Half Length Romp in Gr3 at the Curragh

Mark Smith - Monday October 12

The Noel Meade-trained Helvic Dream, a son of Oaklands Stud’s dual Group 1 winner Power, opened his stakes account with a seven and a half-length romp in the Group III  Novi IT Services International Stakes (10f) at the Curragh overnight.

“He’s been a very unlucky horse all year, it’s quite incredible it was one disaster after another,” Meade told Racing.TV.

“When Oisin (Orr) rode him at Killarney, he felt he went a bit early on him. At Roscommon in a Listed race, we made far too much use of him in heavy ground.

“I think he will stay a mile and a half. I told his owners that I think he is a stakes horse. I’ve felt that all along, and it didn’t surprise me that he won today although it did the ease of the win.

“He merits a trip abroad, there’s nothing much for him here now, but we will look at France .”

The three-year-old gelding was a €12,000 purchase by Peter Nolan Bloodstock out of the Portlester Stud draft at the 2018 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, having made just €4,000 as a foal.

Power

Helvic Dream advances his record to three wins a second and five thirds from 10 starts with earnings of €84,112.

He is the first foal of the unraced Danehill Dancer mare Rachevie whose dam Challow Hills (Woodman) is a half-sister to the multiple Listed winner Teide (Mt Livermore).  It is the family of Group 1 winners Diminuendo (Diesis), Calando (Storm Cat) and Port Lucaya (Sharpo).

Helvic Dream becomes the 14th stakes-winner for Power.

Winner of the Irish Two Thousand Guineas and National Stakes, Power began his career at Cambridge Stud and now stands at Neville Stewart’s Oaklands Stud in Queensland at a fee of $11,000.
