Recent success puts the spotlight on Shalaa at the trials

Mark Smith - Sunday September 20

There will be interest in a trio of new season juveniles  from the first southern hemisphere crop of dual Group 1 winner Shalaa (IRE) in Monday’s official two-year-old barrier trials at Randwick, particularly after a week where he had winners in England and Japan and a Group III second in France.

Shalaa (Mark Smith)

The Michael Stoute trained My Swallow broke his maiden at his second start with a smooth two lengths score under Ryan Moore in a 7f novice at Sandown on Wednesday then on Friday Shalaa’s Legal Attack backed up from his winning debut at Newmarket to finish second in the Group III Prix Eclipse at Chantilly.

Then on Saturday at Chukyo racetrack in Japan, Hitoyogiri made the best possible start to his career with a two-length win in a Newcomers race over 1200m to become his sires 12th winner.
