Trial Watch – Rosehill

There were no juveniles in action at the Rosehill trials on Tuesday morning, but we did see the return of a million dollar colt that showed promise last season and might now be ready to get on with the job.

The Chris Waller trained Yulong Code was a luckless sixth on debut back in May when slowly away and then struck a heavy 8 when finishing fourth, beaten a length as favourite at Warwick Farm in June.

Spelled after that, the son of Zoustar was having his second trial back today and finished strongly up the fence for Hugh Bowman to win his 900m heat by more than a length held together.

Purchased for $1,075,000 at the Magic Millions from the KBL Thoroughbreds draft by Yu Long Investments Pty Ltd/RIFA Mustang, Yulong Code was the most expensive yearling sired by Zoustar in 2019.

He is a half-brother to Group I ATC Australian dErby winner Quick Thinker, Group III placed The August and progressive mare Seasons, who was third in the Group II ATC Sheraco Stakes last Saturday.

Bred by Andrew Bowcock, Yulong Code is the fifth foal from his star producer Acouplamas, a stakes-placed Al Maher mare from the family of Group I winners Blackfriars and Larrocha.

Acouplamas has not had a foal since Yulong Code, but was covered last spring by Trapeze Artist and appears to be in foal.
