Top bets from Laurie Sainsbury for Saturday

Breednet - Friday September 8

Racenet’s roughie finder Laurie Sainsbury hasn’t messed around on Saturday tipping horses at $67, $41, $34, $18 and $12 at Moonee Valley.

Laurie Sainsbury's followers will be riding this if he has a winning day on Saturday.

AMEROCK (Moonee Valley Race 2 No 11)
Amerock has only had three starts, fourth of 10 at Geelong, fourth of 15 at Bendigo and then won at Donald. In the Bendigo run he came from 11th at the 800m, it was a run that indicated he had ability. The winner was Illumicon and the margin was 2-1/2 lengths which was more than acceptable after Illumicon got all the favours and was under plenty of pressure to win. The discrepancy in the odds of $4.60 for Illumicon against $41 Amerock is too much. Furthermore, the step out to 1509m should suit as he is out of a Zabeel mare.

REINCARNATE (Moonee Valley Race 3 No 2)
Former Godolphin galloper that’s changed stables since his luckless run at Caulfield last start, now with Shawn Mathrick. He’s had luck in the past with Godolphin cast offs, Orujo and Adirondack, the latter winning four races for him and placing in the Stoney Creek, Cranbourne and Wagga Cups. Reincarnate was three wide the trip at Caulfield and on the turn was in the middle of the track, conservatively 10 wide, when beaten four lengths by Here To There. Well-drawn in barrier five and Dwayne Dunn rides this track better than most.

GREY LION (Moonee Valley Race 4 No 6)
Had his first Australian start in last year’s Geelong Cup, runner up that day to Qewy, third was Oceanographer. Found them a bit rich at his next few starts and has been a tad disappointing since. He resumed winning a trial at Cranbourne and first-up he drew wide when ridden back and ran 10th of 14 beaten six lengths. However, he made ground out wide when the fence was the place to be and recorded the fastest last 200m of the race, only Harlow Gold recorded better sectionals from the 800m home. Given that he was in inferior going that run was commendable.

ARTICUS (Moonee Valley Race 8 No 8)
He resumed here last start when beaten four lengths by Here To There. Ridden back off the pace and he kept coming the last bit and was in the worst going. Young Ben Allen tried to ride him too pretty and may have been better going a bit sooner, however, Craig Williams takes over for this assignment and he’s unbeaten in three second-up runs. I also have a healthy respect for the Kiwi mares.

ODDS $12 @ CrownBet, Sportsbet, Ladbrokes, Luxbet, William Hill, Bet365, PalmerBet, Unibet

SETTLERS STONE (Moonee Valley Race 9 No 13)
This is the wild card for the meeting. Really liked the way he motored home at Caulfield when beaten 3-1/4 lengths by Here To There, running the second fastest last 200m of the race. I know he’s up in grade but he drops 5kg and gets the services of Dwayne Dunn. At his previous start before a spell ran third to Tally in the Mornington Cup and prior to that was beaten less than a length at Flemington by Big Memory. The speed should be good with Stampede, Mihany and Onpicalo in the blinkers for the first time and that will suit him.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS $41 Sportsbet, Bet365, Unibet
