First Foal for Akeed Mofeed

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 1

The first foal by Dubawi's Group I Hong Kong Gold Cup winning son Akeed Mofeed (GB) is safely on the ground following the birth of a bay colt at Goldin Farms in South Australia on Thursday evening.

Stud manager Andrew Perryman reported that the youngster arrived at 7.30pm on the night of July 30 and that "both the mare and foal are doing well".

Perryman confirmed: "The colt is a bay with one white sock on a hind pastern and a small star on his head. He is an athletic type with a good head and eye and a great deal of quality."

He added: "Mr Pan [Sutong] is very excited by the news as he is tremendously enthusiastic about the stud career of Akeed Mofeed, as he is about his whole thoroughbred concern at Angaston."

Akeed MofeedThe Akeed Mofeed newcomer is the second foal of Gossip Girl, a Group-placed winner of seven races by Testa Rossa. The youngster's pedigree features two strains of the celebrated matriarch Fairy Bridge, through the half-brothers Sadler's Wells (maternal grandsire of Akeed Mofeed) and Perugino (sire of Testa Rossa).

Akeed Mofeed's first-crop is destined to include a significant percentage of youngsters bred on similar terms to the stallion's very first foal.

Also bred to Goldin Farms foundation sire in his debut season were daughters of Refuse To Bend, Montjeu, Blevic (by Scenic), Artie Schiller (by El Prado) and Encosta de Lago (by Fairy King) — Sadler's Wells-line stallions and/or sires with Fairy Bridge also featuring in their pedigree.

Akeed Mofeed stands at a fee of $16,500.
