Greg Polson previews Ballina Thursday September 7

Greg Polson - Thursday September 7

The Toowoomba trainer and apprentice combination of Ben Currie and Rebecca Goldsbury have made an excellent start to the new racing season and the hot run looks set to continue at Ballina on Thursday.

Goldsbury has ridden six winners and eight placings from her 22 rides for the Currie stable since the new racing season began on August 1.

Currie and Goldsbury combine with three runners at Ballina on Thursday with each having an undeniable chance in their respective races.

Captain's Angel looks well placed in the Gold Coast Titans Class 2 Showcase Handicap (1000m) after an easy three-length victory at Kilcoy two runs back before a close second at Murwillumbah last start.

Captain's Angel has the early speed to overcome an awkward barrier draw and will take plenty of running down.

Isis Magic puts an unbeaten second-up record on the line in the CNW Electrical Wholesale Benchmark 70 Showcase Handicap (1000m).

A winner of five of her 10 career starts to date, Isis Magic did enough at the Sunshine Coast resuming finishing on the placegetters heels in a class five handicap to suggest she can record her fourth second-up win in four preparations taking on benchmark 70 company at Ballina.

Apoloboom goes to an open handicap for the first time in the Furnaces @ Aquis Farm Ballina Newmarket Handicap (1250m) after a five-length class five win at Toowoomba resuming from a break on August 19.

With just 53kg on her back after the 1.5kg claim for Goldsbury, Apolobloom will be more than competitive in the feature sprint on Ballina Cup Day.
