Rich Hill stud were delighted to see the Vadamos-colt Spycatcher run second in the Group III Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (1400m) at York this week.
“I thought we had it at the furlong pole when he went a length or so clear,” said Spycatcher's jockey Karl Burke
“He’s a nice colt, but there’s improvement in him. He didn’t really have a race first time when it all went wrong and he fell out of the stalls. He’ll learn a lot from today and he’s having a good, healthy blow.
“He travelled great and the winner Gear Up is just typical of one of Mark’s (Johnston) – they don’t stop."
Spycatcher is out of the Red Clubs mare Damask, a half-sister to Gr.1 Saint-Cloud Criterium winner Zafisio.
Vadamos has made an encouraging start to his breeding career with six Northern Hemisphere two-year-old winners to-date.
Vadamos stands at Rich Hill at a fee of $15,000.
