One of the standout two year-olds offered at the Inglis Ready 2Race Sale last year showed at the Warwick Farm trials this morning that he might now be ready to deliver on promise.
Choisir colt Malkovich was bought by Darby Bloodstock for $240,000 at the Inglis Ready 2Race Sale last year from the draft of Woodpark Stud, who had pinhooked him from Inglis Classic for $85,000.
Connections were hoping for a quick return when they sent him out first up in the $1million ATC Golden Gift, but after showing good pace he faded to finish sixth of 14 behind Dame Giselle and has been off the scene since then.
Turned out in top order this morning by Bjorn Baker, Malkovich showed the brilliance that made him a talking horse last spring, jumping fast for Rachel King to lead and powering clear to win his 794 metre heat by six lengths .
His time of 45.59 seconds was the fastest of all heats run at that distance and he was the only horse all morning to break 33 for his last 600m.
Malkovich is a half-brother to four winners including Group III placed Seewhatshebrings from the family of Group I winners Rewaaya and Sense of Occasion
He was not the only heat winner for Choisir, whose stakes-winning daughter Every Rose also made a pleasing return for the Mark Newnham stable and she too runs for Darby Racing.
