Sale-Topping Son of King's Rose off the Mark in Japan

Mark Smith - Monday July 20

Australasian mares having been kicking goals around the globe of late so we thought it would be timely to add another one to the list and this mare is no stranger to regular readers.

The Redoute’s Choice mare King’s Rose has made her mark in Japan both in the sales ring and on the track.

In 2018 the yearling colt by Deep Impact out of King’s Rose topped the JRHA Select Yearling Sale when purchased by Masahiro Noda's Danox Ltd. for ¥250 million (AUD$3m).

Sale-topping Deep Impact x King's Rose colt

At the same sale a year earlier a yearling colt by Lord Kanaloa went the was of Nicks Co for ¥180 million.

The first foal of King’s Rose, a colt by Deep Impact made his mark at the 2015 Select Yearling Sale. He became the fourth highest priced lot when knocked down to Hajime Satomi for ¥195 million.

Named Satono Arthur he would pay his way with four wins, including the Group III Epsom cup, and nine placings from 19 starts.

The Lord Kanaloa foal named Suave Charles has won two and placed in two of his seven starts to date although he seems to be more at home on the dirt rather than the turf.

Which brings us to the sale-topping Deep Impact colt.

Named Danon Regalo and sent to trainer Mitsumasa Nakauchida, the son of King’s Rose made his career debut in a three-year-old maiden over 2200m at Hanshin on June 21 where he finished an even fifth.

Backing up nearly a month later over the same course and distance. Danon Regalo showed he had taken plenty of benefit from his debut run by winning in impressive style.

Looking to be treading water at the 200m, the son of Deep Impact took off in the final stages to win in the manner of a horse that has a bright future.

King’s Rose has plenty more to offer with a yearling colt by Deep Impact and a colt foal by Heat’s Cry.

Winner of the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas and placed in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes, Group 1 Toorak Hcp, Group 1 Coolmore Classic and Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes, King's Rose is a sister to Group II Alister Clarke Stakes winner and Group 1 ATC Australian Derby third Hardham.
