A
half-brother to Group I winner Complacent, Godolphin blueblood Ataraxia resumed
from a spell to score his first win at Newcastle on Tuesday downing the short
priced favourite Legendofoz.
Tuned up with two recent trials, the James Cummings trained son of Teofilo (IRE)
was tackling 1350 metres fist up and a lightly raced talented older horse in
Legendofoz (4g Fastnet Rock x Princess Coup), so was set a decent task.
He relished the challenge, stalking the favourite and then powering past him for
Kerrin McEvoy to win by half a length with some three and a half lengths back
to the third horse.
Ataraxia is a half-brother to Godolphin's 2013 Group I ATC Spring Champion Stakes
winner Complacent and is the ninth winner from nine foals to race from terrific
producer Insouciance.
A full sister to Group I winner Dracula, Insouciance comes from a big Black
Type family featuring Group I stars such as Festal, Masked Party, Inspiration
and more recently Wandjina.
Given the depth of his pedigree and promise of this win, it's not hard to see
Ataraxia measuring up to a lot better races during this three year-old season.
His sire Teofilo is back in Australia for Darley this spring standing at a fee
of $44,000.
