For the third time this week Choisir has delivered as a broodmare sire with the Group II Prix Maurice de Nieuil (1m 6f) at Longchamp overnight won by tough stayer Red Verdon, whose dam is Choisir’s stakes-winning daughter Porto Marmay.
A seven year-old gelding by Lemon Drop Kid, Red Verdon runs in the same ownership as ill-fated stayer Red Cadeaux and is also trained by Ed Dunlop.

Eighth in the Caulfield Cup last year, he struck top form last start winning the Listed Doncaster Grand Cup and then went on with it here to score by a length and a quarter, his ninth win from 35 starts.
A 90,000 guinea purchase from the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, Red Verdon is the best of four winners from Porto Marmay.
Choisir mares have produced 18 stakes-winners including three this week with Red Verdon joining Group I Darley July Cup winner Oxsted and Listed winning Galileo filly Lovelier.
