Saturday produced four winners for the Racenet team while a number of horses can be followed out of Sydney and Melbourne’s meetings.
Clinton Payne and Paul Joice tipped three winners between them at Randwick while Ben Dorries also found some joy at Doomben.
Below are Saturday’s winning selections:
Paul Joice
SUPER EX (Randwick Race 1 No 6)
Joice couldn’t believe the price on offer for this Mark Newnham-trained three-year-old, especially considering his form around quality horses like D’Argento. His confidence was raised even further with the booking of Hugh Bowman and the inside draw, with the colt expected to take up a prominent position. Those who took the early odds of $4.80 were rewarded as the punters rallied late for the son of Excites for him to start clear second pick behind James Cummings' Beau Geste at $3.
Early Price: $4.80
Starting Price: $3.40

Ben Dorries
RANCHO MONTOYA (Doomben Race 6 No 15)
Despite being defeated at $2.10 and $3.50 over 1350m at his past couple of starts Dorries was keen on this promising son of High Chaparral stepping up to the mile for the first time. Despite a slight drift in the market the Stuart Kendrick-trained colt settled mid-field for Robbie Fradd before letting down for a strong win.
Early Price: $4
Starting Price: $4.60
Clinton Payne
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS (Randwick Race 9 No 7)
Payne expected Washington Heights to bounce back into winning form in the final event of the day at Randwick after have no luck in the straight at his previous start. Payne considered the task a drop in grade and with Kerrin McEvoy booked to ride he was confident, with a touch of luck, he would get the job done this time.
Early Price: $2.10
Starting Price: $2.40

Clinton Payne
UP 'N' ROLLING (Randwick Race 2 No 8)
After an impressive first-up win at Canterbury over 1550m Payne knew there was going to be no luxury in the price, and after scratchings there definitely wasn’t, but he expected the promising stayer to simply win despite the rise in class. Everything panned out perfectly in the run and those brave enough to take the short odds were never in doubt.
Early Price: $2.05
Starting Price: $1.40

HORSES TO FOLLOW
Merovee – This son of Frankel showed that he has plenty of future wins in store with a barnstorming finish along the rails in the Benchmark 75 3YO Handicap (1300m) behind Super Ex. A few more strides and no doubt Merovee would have claimed the winner. Obviously looking for more ground but is a horse to keep on side.
Dawn Wall – The money was around to say this Chris Waller-trained mare was going to run a big race on Saturday. She charged late and was only beaten narrowly by the talented and race fit Washington Heights. She is clearly in for a good preparation.
Champagne Cuddles – It was hard to miss the run of Champagne Cuddles in the Furious Stakes when launching down the outside from the rear of the field to finish second behind the talented Formality. It could be argued if she was able to settle closer in the run the placings would have been reversed.
Snitzson – Really liked the way Australian Guineas place-getter Snitzson hit the line behind Grande Rosso from well-back on Saturday. The Hayes’ and Dabernig-trained galloper recorded the fastest last 600m of the race. Watch for him next start.
FORGIVE FILE
Fuhryk – Was backed off the map only to have no clear running down the straight. A horror watch for punters on at the short odds but can return a winner next start.
Schedule – The Highway Handicap could have provided winner number six on the card for Kerrin McEvoy but unfortunately things didn’t go to plan, with Schedule struggling to find clear running at a vital stage before hitting the line strongly late.
