Ricci contemplating another spring carnival raid

Ricci had his interest ignited when Max Dynamite finished runner-up to Prince Of Penzance in the 2015 Melbourne Cup and is considering a return with the seven-year-old, who has only raced four times on the flat and over jumps since Flemington.

Ricci's racing manager Joe Chambers told the Sporting Life the owner has three horses trained by Willie Mullins under consideration for the spring carnival this year.

"Riven Light is in the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup, while Thomas Hobson and Max Dynamite are both in the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup," Chambers said.

"The Caulfield Cup is on October 21 and there's also Champions Day at Ascot on the same day to consider for those horses, but no decision will be made in the short term.

"We have two or three weeks before they go into quarantine so we have time on our side in relation to making a decision."

Riven Light commenced his career with Carlos Laffon-Parias in France before being purchased by Ricci at auction for €200,000 to go jumping in November 2016.

The five-year-old won his maiden hurdle by 12 lengths at his first start for Ricci but has raced on the flat recently, defeating three rivals last time out on August 31.

"Riven Light won over nine furlongs at Tipperary the other day and while he won as a 1/5 shot should do, I did still think it was a good performance," Chambers said.

"We'll wait and see and let the trainer do the training and make our decisions nearer the time."

Thomas Hobson has also mixed racing on the flat and over jumps.

The seven-year-old won the Ascot Stakes over two and a half miles at Royal Ascot in June (replay below) and last raced on August 25 when finishing seventh of nine in the Group II Lonsdale Cup over two miles and half a furlong.
