Playing God Leads Roster at Darling View Thoroughbreds

Media Release - Sunday June 21

Playing God will stand for a $13,200 (inc GST) service fee when covering his first book at Darling View Thoroughbreds in WA this season.

Darling View’s Brent Atwell bought the Group 1 winning racehorse and sire from Mungrup Stud earlier this month.  He also purchased I’m All The Talk, another former Mungrup resident, who is Champion WA freshman-elect for 2019-20.

They join Patronize (Redoute’s Choice) and Lucky Street (Oratorio) on an enhanced roster at Mundijong.

“We’re excited and feel our line-up is as good as any in the State,” Atwell said on Friday.  “Playing God and I’m All The Talk have huge upsides going forward and we’ve priced all four stallions to meet the market.”

Playing God (Blackfriars) has Group 1 winner Kay Cee on track to emulate her sire with back-to-back victories in the Kingston Town Classic at Ascot on December 5.  His latest yearlings sold to $150,000 and averaged $75,000 at the Perth Magic Millions in February.

I’m All The Talk (Stratum) has five first-crop winners so far this season topped by Watch Me Dance (G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes).  He’s home-and-hosed for the WA first-season title and is making late ground on Snippetson for the WA 2YO premiership.

Patronize is WA’s leading sire for winners-to-runners (72%) and G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Lucky Street will have his first crop racing in 2020-21.

The Atwell family is steeped in racing going back several generations.  “My great grandfather raced the 1925 Perth Cup winner Great Applause,” Brent said.  “Darling View was originally a dairy farm and we made the decision go commercial with thoroughbreds about eight years ago.”

Atwell served as TBWA President for three years until April and he’s also a partner in leading Perth Magic Millions vendor Western Breeders’ Alliance.  WBA topped turnover at this year’s Swan Valley Sale and its Winning Rupert - Bitter Twist colt was second on the leader-board when knocked down to Mornington trainer Matt Laurie for $200,000.
