Star Rubick Filly Ready to Step Up

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 15

Coolmore young gun Rubick is without his star performer Yes Yes Yes going forward with the record breaking 2019 Everest winner set to cover his first book of mares at Coolmore later this spring, but his best filly Rubisaki has just returned to work and connections are hopeful she’ll be bigger and better than ever.

"She has spelled really well," her trainer Patrick Payne told Racenet.

"She was down at Fulmen Park and filled out. We sort of hoped she would furnish a little bit and she has.

"She put on about 20 to 30kg. Across her back she has filled out."

Rubisaki has the impressive record of eight wins and two seconds from 10 starts with earnings topping $1.1million, her three year-old season unblemished with consecutive wins highlighted by Group victories in the VRC Kewney Stakes, ATC PJ Bell Stakes and James Carr Stakes.

It put races like The Everest and Golden Eagle firmly on the radar in the spring, but Payne insists it's the latter that will be his filly's focus for the time being.

"We are thinking Cockram (August 31), Silver Eagle and then Golden Eagle and The Everest has been mentioned but that's a long way off," Payne said.

"We are not panicking about The Everest this year because she can always go to it next year if he form is good enough.

"Personally as a trainer I think her attitude exceeds her ability a little bit sometimes especially when she got on soft ground in the autumn. But she has an amazing will to win."

Rubisaki was a modest $85,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds from the Edinburgh Park draft.
