New Stallion for Aquis Queensland

Media Release - Wednesday May 27

Globally recognised as the highest rated son of Declaration Of War, Gr.1 French 2,000 Guineas (1600m) winner Olmedo is set to join fellow first season sire Dubious (Not A Single Doubt) at Aquis’ Canungra property for the 2020 breeding season.

A 2YO debut winner by four lengths at Deauville followed by a second in the Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (1600m) behind Cartier Champion 2YO Filly Happily, Olmedo was ultimately named France’s Champion 2YO of 2017 on the World Thoroughbred Rankings, and it was during his Classic season that his win in the French 2,000 Guineas confirmed him as a serious prospect.

Olmedo

“My time in Europe afforded me the opportunity to experience elite classic racing and exposure to elite quality bloodlines,” stated Aquis CEO Tony (Tubba) Williams.

“Olmedo is the perfect stallion for Queensland and Aquis. He is the highest rated son of Declaration of War (War Front), the French Champion 2YO in 2017, he won the Gr.1 French 2,000 Guineas at 3, like Shamardal and Lope De Vega before him, and he trained on to further stakes success at 4, confirming his class and durability.

“As an outstanding physical specimen that is completely free of Danehill blood, Olmedo will be the perfect outcross for the abundance of Danehill line mares, adding class, elegance, precocity and strength to an evolving Queensland broodmare population.”

Retiring with a Timeform Rating equal to Spirit Of Boom and Written Tycoon and higher than Better Than Ready, who all commenced their stud careers in Queensland, Olmedo will stand at a fee that offers outstanding value when compared with many fellow first-season sires.

Olmedo defeated Gr.1-winning Champions U S Navy Flag, Robin Of Navan and Polydream, as well as fellow Gr.1 winners Masar and Phoenix Of Spain throughout his career. With a higher rating than his sire at 2 and the equal at 3, Olmedo is the highest rated runner of his sire’s 45 stakes performers, highlighted by four other individual Gr.1 winners; Vow And Declare, Winning Ways and Warning, all elite level winners in Australia, as well as the 2YO Canadian Gr.1 winner Decorated Invader.

Coupled with his tremendous statistics of 20% black-type performers to winners and 12% stakes winners to winners, Declaration Of War is also the sire of this season’s exciting Hong Kong Gr.2 HKJC Sprint Cup (1200m) winner Voyage Warrior and the up and coming sprinter War Of Courage. He is the leading third season sire of Group 1 winners in Australia ahead of many high-profile horses.

“In my view, Olmedo is the best stallion prospect to be imported into Queensland, usually stallions with his international credentials are rarely afforded to the Queensland breeder. We are confirming our support of Queensland, where it all began for Aquis, by establishing Olmedo’s career here.”

Olmedo will stand at Aquis Canungra, QLD at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST) For more information, contact Aquis CEO, Tony “Tubba” Williams on 0428 932 663
