One of the real success stories among the first season stallions has been the one season Darley shuttler Night Of Thunder (IRE) who chalked up his seventh winner from just 11 runners when the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained filly Winning Weather broke her maiden over a 1000 metres at Murray Bridge on Saturday.
Second when on debut at Balaklava on April 29, Winning Weather ran down the favourite All Banter (I’m All The Talk) by a length with Sabaku (Written Tycoon) a further three lengths back in third.
“She was bred by a mate of mine from Hong Kong who syndicated her to a few mates,” McDonald told racing.com.
“She has always shown good pace. I thought her first up run at Balaklava was really good.
“I saw the favourite today barrier trial and I thought she might have too much pace for us but I was pretty confident she would beat the rest.
“She has just kept improving. Jason was pushing her along a bit early, but she just kept grinding away and I think she will go a bit further.”
Winning Weather is the first foal of the winning Sebring mare Lemon Soju who has a yearling filly by Nostradamus.
