Armidale Stud Announce 2020 Fees

Media Release - Friday May 22

Armidale Stud are pleased to present to breeders three outstanding stallions with fees structured to suit every breeder in these trying times.

Needs Further $12,500 plus GST (standing at Aquis Victoria in 2020)

Alpine Eagle $5,500, plus GST

Tough Speed $2,500 plus GST

Three horses at different stages of their career and all with plenty to offer!

“In light of the current global situation resulting from the Covid 19 pandemic and ensuing financial downturn, we have taken the decision to reduce our Tasmanian fees by an average of 20% in a bid to assist breeders through these unprecedented events”

While we understand that these fees are not a true indication of the quality of the stallions themselves, 2020 is a year where the support of everyone within the industry is essential.

“We are mindful of doing all we can to support breeders” Whishaw said.

NEEDS FURTHER

The regally related Needs Further – by Encosta de Lago out of the Golden Slipper runner up mare Crowned Glory (by Danehill and half-sister to the great Zabeel) has enjoyed another stellar season with Mystic Journey, Deroche, Mystical Pursuit and Bold Star continuing to prove there worth in elite company.

Deroche (Gr.3 Vamos Stakes) and Bold Star (Listed Kensington Stakes) have added stakes wins to their imposing records whilst Mystical Pursuit was so impressive taking out the Tasmanian 1000 Guineas.

Five of Needs Further’s first 52 winners are stakes winners and the best is to come with the handsome bay last spring serving his biggest book yet – mares from around the country heading to Armidale for a date with the state’s most exciting stallion in decades.

We are excited to be joining forces with Aquis Farm to stand Needs Further in 2020. The growth of Aquis Farm has been significant in the stallion market, expanding their roster from four stallions in 2016, to now standing fifteen this season. Their expansion into the Victorian breeding industry presents the opportune time for Needs Further to build on his outstanding start to his stallion career.

Needs Further

Needs Further will stand at Aquis Farm in Seymour Victoria for the 2020 season at $12,500 plus GST

ALPINE EAGLE

Speaking of exciting stallions – well Alpine Eagle well and truly fits that bill, the particularly good-looking son of the late, great High Chaparral also serving impressive books of mares with his yearlings impressing all who have inspected them.

Fetching up to $180,000, Alpine Eagle’s first yearlings caught the eye of great judges. Alpine Eagle – who hails from the family of the legendary Sir Ivor – was only just beaten in the Gr.1 Australian Guineas and he looks set to add to the success enjoyed by High Chaparral and his sons (such as Dundeel, So You Think and Toronado) in this part of the world.

Spring will unveil the first runners for Alpine Eagle and we couldn’t be more excited to see them on the track.

TOUGH SPEED

Last by no means least of our lovely trio, is Tough Speed, the horse we love to call “the Redoute’s Choice of Tasmania!” By Mr Prospector’s high-class son Miswaki, the Gr.3 winning Tough Speed heads into his 17th season with us and what a grand job he has done.

Despite never serving large books, he has been well represented by 107 winners including the tough stakes winners Banca Mo, Black ‘N’ Tough, Lyell, Tiesto, Tough Chik and stakes placed, and recent dual Melbourne city winner Exasperate, Speedonova, and Buzzing Along.

Tough Speed’s 2020 fee has been set at an ultra -competitive price of $2500 plus GST in 2020

Armidale Stud offers some of the most affordable agistment rates in Australia and we are always welcoming of mares from around the state and the country.

Armidale Stud Managing Director said “I believe at Armidale we have the perfect climate and some of the best pastures in Australia for rearing thoroughbreds, and I am certain this is the key to us producing strong boned, tough racehorses.

“We have seen the likes of Mystic Journey, Hellova Street, Like a Carousel, Deroche, Soul Patch, Indictment, Pateena Arena and Mystical Pursuit all come off the farm in recent times.

"Over the last few years an increasing number of mainland breeders are realising just how accessible and realistically priced our stallions are and I expect this recognition will continue to grow. Our very realistic service, agistment and veterinary fees plus our great pastures and climate, all add up to make Tassie a very attractive and affordable option for interstate breeders,” Whishaw said
