Red Hot Shamus to Shine in Rosemont Auction

Media Release - Wednesday May 20

From the time he hit the big time with a famous win as a three-year-old in the WS Cox Plate, Shamus Award proved he was a special animal.

He trained on the next preparation to win the Group One Australian Guineas to prove he was one of the finest of his generation. He was crowned the Champion Colt of Australia for the 2013-14 racing season.

These days Shamus Award has added another string to his bow through the exploits of his progeny – as a sire Shamus is going places!

Shamus Award is in hot form!As the only Group One winning son of Snitzel to stand in Victoria, there’s plenty to like about Shamus Award. While his race record was outstanding and his pedigree impressive, he’s now rightly earning kudos as a sire of immense quality.

From three crops to race so far Shamus Award has produced 82 individual winners from just 133 runners. Those 82 winners have won a combined 202 races.

Queensland Derby winner Mr Quickie is a perfect example of the progeny Shamus Award can produce. Throw in group winners Soul Patch, Etana and True Detective and stakes winners Classic Weiwei, Shamino and Flying Award and you can see why he’s proving such a fan with breeders and buyers alike.

Causeway Girl, Malahide, Epic Girl, Golden Victory and Ironedge are also black type performers for the impressive young sire. And Swats That recently scored a brilliant win in the rich Gold Rush at Bendigo.

And it’s not only Australia where his progeny are doing the job – he’s had winners in Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, South Africa, New Zealand and the Philippines.

Now a resident at Rosemont Stud in Victoria, Shamus Award will play his part in next week’s Rosemont Exclusive Online Sale being conducted on the Magic Millions Online platform.

He is the covering sire of seven broodmares being offered online without reserve.

Among the mares to be offered is the stakes placed McFly (Lot 54), the dam of group winner Chapter and Verse and the stakes performed Soaring Heart.

Also being presented at the auction following a spring cover by Shamus Award is Mega Boss’ half sister Miss Lillian, Stratofortress’ half sister Royal Raine, Maldivian’s three quarter sister Belavynshi and the Oaks performer American Joy.
