Redzel Continues Snitzel's Dominance

Mark Smith - Saturday September 2

Kerrin McEvoy made sure he played to Redzel's strength in Saturday's $150,000 Group III Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick, firing the son of Snitzel from the barriers then grinding his three opponents into the ground with a brilliant display of speed.

Making his seasonal debut, the Group I Doomben 10000 hero gave his enthusiastic band of owner's little cause for concern, keeping up a relentless gallop to defeat the Hollywood-handsome Spieth by 2-lengths with a length back to Nieta who battled on for third ahead of The Monstar.

The Australian Turf Club is expected to announce its representative for the $10 million Everest next week and Redzel has put his name to the fore.

" Redzel is a Randwick horse and he's a Group I weight-for-age winner so he has to be under serious consideration," ATC chief executive Darren Pearce said.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said he hoped the win convinced the ATC or another slot holder the Doomben 10,000 winner deserved inclusion.

"It's been all about an Everest preparation. Today just started that," Snowden said.

"We will space his runs to get a result as we've done in the last two preparations."

"That speaks for itself. It's four weeks to the Moir and no doubt he's going to be mighty hard to beat there and hopefully we pick up a slot very soon.

"We wanted to make our intention quite clear early in the preparation that he deserves to be there."

Runner-up to stablemate Russian Revolution in the Group I The Galaxy at Randwick on March 18, before winning the Group III Hall Mark Stakes on April 15 and Group I Doomben 10,0000 on March 13 to close out his 4yo season, Redzel advances his overall record to 8 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third from 18 starts with earnings of $1,279,450.

A $120,000 purchase by Triple Crown Syndications from the draft of Marquee Stud at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Redzel is the tenth living foal and second stakes-winner, after the Group III winner Danerich, for the former top-class Rubiton mare Millrich.

Winner of the Group III Sweet Embrace Stakes, Millrich was placed in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Group II Silver Shadow Stakes, Group II Magic Night Stakes and Group II San Domenico Stakes.

A sister to the dam of the talented El Roca (Fastnet Rock) Millrich died three weeks after foaling Redzel.

Reigning champion stallion Snitzel has made a brilliant start to the new season.

Redzel is his seventh stakes winner in the first few weeks of the season.
