Very sad news with the passing of AAP Turf Editor Caryl Williamson, who will be sorely missed by everyone in the racing industry.
She died peacefully at age 67 in her Sydney home on Tuesday.
Caryl devoted her life to racing journalism and was a well-liked and respected figure.
In 1996, Caryl became the first woman to head an Australian media organisation's racing coverage when appointed Turf Editor at AAP and remained in the role until her passing.
There will be a lot of racing people having a drink to Caryl and I’ll be one of them, she had a genuine passion for all things horse racing, was a straight shooter and loved her cats!
Come to think of it, people will probably say that about me one day.
