Pinhook Potential at Magic Millions Cornerstone Reduction

Media Release - Sunday May 3

When the hammer comes down on a big priced yearling that you sold for a fraction of the price as a weanling, it feels like you have been subject to the ultimate personality test.

On the one hand you are telling yourself “oh wow, isn’t that great”, “I hope they buy off us again next year”, “ perhaps that mare is better than I gave her credit for”. All you are really doing is trying to supress that “oh boy… I just stuffed up” feeling.

There is a great deal of merit in leaving something on the table for the next guy. It is also human nature to wonder whether you got your timing wrong when you are watching someone tucking into your entrée!

This happens to us regularly at Cornerstone Stud. In the last few weeks weanlings that we have sold through Magic Millions have gone onto make….

Not a Single Doubt – Celebrity Appeal colt: Coolmore sold for $650,000 at Easter after we sold him for $300,000.

Flying Artie – Exceleine colt: Two Bays sold for $160,000 at Premier after we sold him for $65,000.

Deep Field – Dijonnaise colt: Someone got lucky and sold him for $240,000 at Premier after we sold him for $140,000.

Headwater – Miss Cooper: Richard Jolly purchased for $160,000 on the Gold Coast this year after we sold him for $50,000 (check out the sister.. Lot 10).

Headwater – Red Duchez: Made $420,000 at the R2R last year after we sold him for $38,000 (Red Duchez is for sale with a lovely Free Eagle foal at foot and in foal to Ambidexter.. check out lot 44)

There are many, many more that we have erased from our mind… or at least tried to…. like the $160,000 Hussonet - Almah colt that went onto make HKD 10,500,000. We left before the appetizer was served that day!!

So when you are perusing the weanlings for sale at www.magicmillions.online try not to picture a farm that gets it right every time, or even some of the time. Most of the time our personalities are being tested and we hope for your sake they will be again soon.
