Inglis Chairman’s Sale - Mares in Foal to Justify

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 27

The virtual online Inglis Chairman’s Sale next week is a select offering of premium mares including some in foal to the boom first season horses that captivated Australian breeders last spring in Trapeze Artist (Widden), Justify (Coolmore) and The Autumn Sun (Arrowfield), so in this three part series of stories we’ll take a closer look at those mares.

Click her for the Trapeze Artist story.

An undefeated US Triple Crown winner by sire sensation Scat Daddy, Justify (USA) was a remarkable racehorse and promises to be an exceptional sire.

Justify

Given the sale ring success in Australia this year of Coolmore’s other Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (USA), you would have the be optimistic about the chances of Justify,

He covered 149 mares at an unlisted fee, but we can assume it’s somewhere on a par with Trapeze Artist ($88,000) and The Autumn Sun ($77,000).

There are four mares in foal to Justify as listed below.

Lot 2 Peron – Segenhoe Stud

“She is just a stunning looking mare and the mating with Justify looks ideal for her. Her first foal, Juan Diva, in training with Michael and Richard Freedman, is now a multiple winner and looks Stakes class. Her second foal, who was an outstanding yearling, has trialled impressively for the Snowden’s and looks very smart. Lastly she has a beautiful weanling filly by Deep Impact.” - Peter O’Brien, Segenhoe Stud

Lot 33 Celebrity Dream (NZ) – Holbrook Thoroughbreds

“She was a very good racemare, probably significantly better than her record shows. She is the sort of mare that I could build a programme around, so I would rather not be selling her. However, I have made a conscious decision to focus on my own 6 or so pedigrees for breeding, so the opportunity with this mare will become somebody else’s.” - Bob Peters, Owner

Lot 49 Luskintyre Lass – Newgate Consignment

Luskintyre Lass

“Luskintyre Lass is a sharp, good-looking, Group-performed Snitzel mare IF to US Triple Crown hero Justify. She has the credentials to be a very welcome commercial addition to any broodmare band. She is a speed mare and if she produces foals that look like her, she is going to be a mare that adds a lot of value to a commercial operation.” - Jim Carey, Newgate

Lot 79 Fine Scent – Glenesk Thoroughbreds as agent for Bell View Park

Fine Scent - click for more information

“Not only is Fine Scent a Stakes-placed half sister to a G1 Golden Slipper winner, this is an extremely progressive and well-regarded family. Under her first dam alone there are no fewer than 15 active mares with 2019 coverings, weanlings, yearlings and unraced 2YOs by leading stallions such as Pierro, Savabeel, Written Tycoon etc. Also, under her first dam, we have already witnessed 16 yearlings sell for in excess of $200,000, with highs of $460,000, $500,000, $600,000 and $650,000 (twice). There is a lot to like about Fine Scent and what the future holds for her.’’ - Brett Howard, Glenesk Thoroughbreds
