VRC Sires Produce Next for No Nay Never Filly Denied

Mark Smith - Thursday February 24

Heavily backed off a luckless second on debut, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained filly Denied earned a start in the Group II VRC Sires' Produce Stakes when breaking her maiden at Pakenham on Thursday.

Given a positive ride by Patrick Maloney, the daughter of No Nay Never (USA) was strong to the line in defeating the I Am Invincible filly Habeebati by one and a quarter length with the Pride Of Dubai filly Queen Latifa a half-head back in third.

"She was really good on debut when she charged home after the leader got her own way," Kent said.

'We targeted this race with a plan to bounce her into the Group II Sires' in three weeks.

Denied was consigned by Yulong Stud to the 2021 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where she made $100,000 to the bid of Import Racing / Mick Price Racing / Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) / Tom Sheahan Bloodstock.

The win could not have been any timelier for Yulong, who will consign a Lonhro half brother to the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. (lot 349).

Denied a $100,000 Inglis Classic yearling

Denied is the first foal of the unraced Bernadini (USA) mare She Said No, who Yulong purchased from the Coolmore draft at the 2019 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale for $220,000 when carrying Denied.

She Said No is a sister to Listed MRC Twilight Glow Stakes winner and multiple Group II placed Meidung, the dam of Group II Moonee Valley Fillies Classic winner Banish (Lonhro).

She Said No is also a half-sister to Group III MRC Ethereal Stakes winner Gamay (Pierro) and to the dam of Group II MRC Schillaci Stakes winner and Group 1 placed Dirty Work (Written Tycoon).

She Said No foaled an Alabama Express filly last spring and was bred back to Written Tycoon.
