Invincible Onslaught

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 19

With 10 winners in the last seven days and 35 in the past 30, I Am Invincible is churning out the winners that include the progressive Kris Lees trained mare Asharani, who won the $150,000 Gosford Provincial Championships Qualifier at Newcastle on Thursday.

Asharani charged home from back in the field for Brenton Avdulla to score a half length win in the 1200 metre sprint taking her overall record to five wins and three placings from 15 starts with prizemoney topping $270,000.

“She let down really well,” said Kris Lees, who has three horses now qualified for the $500,000 Provincial Championship at Randwick on April 11.

“She’s a really nice mare and will be well suited at Randwick in a few weeks time.”

A $440,000 Inglis Easter yearling purchase for D Lucas / Phoenix Thoroughbreds from the Canning Downs draft, Asharani is the best of seven winners from seven foals to race from stakes-winner Fuji Dancer.

Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible is already up to 133 winners for the season of $11.7 million in prizemoney with his 10 stakes-winners including his Group I winner Loving Gaby, who runs tonight in the Group I MVRC William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley carrying the same colours as Asharani.
