Onwards and Upwards for Proisir

Media Release - Thursday March 19

Rich Hill Stud stallion Proisir was in the thick of the Group action at Trentham’s champagne turf on Saturday, with two new Group 1 performers and a sensational Group 2 second by his first crop fillies.

All three fillies have ambitious Autumn targets ahead as the young stallion’s career continues on an upward spiral.

Proisir sired the second and third place-getters in the New Zealand Oaks.

The Gavin Sharrock-trained Vancooga (gold colours with green armband) did a magnificent job finishing runner-up in Saturday's Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks, coming off her maiden success over 1600m three weeks prior.

Sharrock reports Vancooga has come through her exertions with flying colours and he is looking at running her next in the Gr.3 Manawatu Classic (2000m, April 28). He has the Gr.1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m, May 2) at Morphettville as a likely future target.

The Kelvin and AimeeTyler-trained three-time winner Feel The Rush (pictured obscured behind Vancooga) completed a top classic result for Proisir with her brave run for third in The Oaks. The Tyler's have left their filly up north to also target the Gr.3 Manawatu Classic ahead of a possible Australian Oaks campaign.

Levante was sent out favourite in the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas only to bomb the start. The daughter of Proisir quickly made up the leeway to tack on to the field and was still last on the turn. She then had the temerity to weave through the field and just came up short, finishing a close second.

Proisir is moving onwards and upwards While connections were understandably disappointed, Levante did them proud with a sterling effort. Trainer Ken Kelso is now contemplating running Levante next in the Gr.1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1600m, April 4) against the older mares.

Proisir’s Group 3 winning and Group 1 placed son, Riodini, looks set to resume his career in the Gr.3 Cambridge Breeders Stakes (1200m, April 24), after a brief let up following his successful spring campaign.

Trainer Nigel Tiley is very excited with the way he is progressing and says he can’t wait for the talented gelding to get back to the races.

It is an exciting time for Rich Hill Stud as they watch Proisir’s stallion career gather momentum.

“Proisir has quickly proven himself a stallion that can upgrade his mares which bodes very well for his stud future,” commented Rich Hill managing director John Thompson.

"It is important to remember that Proisir’s first crop progeny were conceived off a $7,000 service fee."
