Foxwedge Proves his Worth

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 15

If you sent a mare to proven Group I sire Foxwedge in his new home at Woodside Park in Victoria last spring you’d be entitled to be feeling happy about the results of the past few weeks.

Two new stakes-winners for Foxwedge on March 7 in Villami and Lunar Fox (read about them here) were followed up last Saturday by another great performance from quality mare Noire, who rattled home for third in testing conditions in the Group I ATC Coolmore Classic.

Already a Group II winner, Noire claimed her first Group I placing when taking her earnings soaring past $650,000 and her trainer Chris Waller will no doubt give the six year-old every chance to improve her record further before the end of the season.

G2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes winner Lunar Fox is by Foxwedge Villami and Lunar Fox brought Foxwedge’s tally of stakes-winners to 17 with a further 26 stakes-placed horses.

While his overall stud record records suggests Foxwedge does better with his fillies, the success of two year-old colt Lunar Fox gave us a reminder that his colts and geldings are more than capable.

Foxwedge may have been a little unlucky not to have a higher profile in Australia with his male offspring as a couple of his better colts and gelding have been sold overseas.

Infamous Fox has won a couple of stakes-races in South Africa and Big Alloy is a very good horse in Macau being a stakes-winner there and placing in the Macau Derby, while Fox Hall is also a stakes-winner in South Australia.

Foxwedge yearlings continue to prove popular in the sale ring with six yearlings selling for $100,000 or more this year with his best result a filly from The Baroness that made $220,000 at Magic Millions.

The best son of champion sire Fastnet Rock based in Victoria, Foxwedge represents proven value and a great option for breeders looking for a low risk sire with no guesswork involved.
